Centamin announces shareholder vote results on AngloGold Ashanti acquisition

Centamin issued a statement on the London Stock Exchange confirming that its shareholders have approved the vote in favour of the proposed acquisition of Centamin by AngloGold Ashanti.

Martin Horgan, Centamin’s CEO, commented on the shareholders’ approval of the deal, saying: “We are pleased that our shareholders have agreed to our vision of the importance of AngloGold Ashanti’s acquisition of our company, which creates added value for all parties concerned and stakeholders, as evidenced by the vote result, which came with a 98% approval rate from all shareholders.” He continued: “At the same time, we are confident in AngloGold Ashanti’s ability to build on the significant achievements that the Centamin team has been able to achieve in cooperation with our partners in the Egyptian government, who have confirmed the position of the Sukari mine as a world-class production asset, thanks to its ability to achieve an upward growth path.” Horgan added that with regard to the timeline for completing the transaction and the next steps that will be taken in this regard, the completion of the AngloGold Ashanti acquisition is subject to the approval of the Royal Court of Jersey, which will be announced at the special session to be held in connection with the transaction on November 20, 2024.
