Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 0.28%

Germany stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Retail, Media and Utilities sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 0.28%, while the MDAX index declined 1.20%, and the TecDAX index declined 1.67%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which rose 2.40% or 0.229 points to trade at 9.789 at the close. Meanwhile, Covestro AG (DE:1COV) added 1.94% or 1.140 points to end at 59.800 and MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. (DE:MTXGn) was up 1.75% or 3.35 points to 194.90 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Delivery Hero AG (DE:DHER), which fell 6.53% or 7.95 points to trade at 113.75 at the close. Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) declined 2.75% or 3.33 points to end at 117.55 and RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) was down 2.46% or 0.800 points to 31.725.

The top performers on the MDAX were Airbus Group SE (DE:AIRG) which rose 4.09% to 95.47, Fraport AG (DE:FRAG) which was up 3.59% to settle at 47.075 and Deutsche Lufthansa AG (DE:LHAG) which gained 2.77% to close at 11.320.

The worst performers were Varta AG (DE:VAR1) which was down 10.51% to 117.500 in late trade, Metro Wholesale & Food Specialist AG (DE:B4B) which lost 8.79% to settle at 9.5000 and HelloFresh SE (DE:HFGG) which was down 8.13% to 66.70 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Software AG (DE:SOWGn) which rose 1.27% to 37.410, Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which was up 0.13% to settle at 466.600 and Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which lost 0.04% to close at 2.397.

The worst performers were Varta AG (DE:VAR1) which was down 10.51% to 117.500 in late trade, LPKF Laser & Electronics (DE:LPKG) which lost 5.50% to settle at 28.350 and Jenoptik AG (DE:JENGn) which was down 4.37% to 26.700 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 458 to 226 and 27 ended unchanged.

Shares in Covestro AG (DE:1COV) rose to 52-week highs; up 1.94% or 1.140 to 59.800.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 4.02% to 23.29.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.68% or 29.80 to $1807.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 3.16% or 1.87 to hit $61.13 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 2.67% or 1.66 to trade at $63.80 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.23% to 1.2145, while EUR/GBP rose 0.02% to 0.8645.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.24% at 90.145.
