U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Financials and Basic Materials sectors led shares higher while losses in the Technology, Utilities and Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.32%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.48%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 2.01%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which rose 4.55% or 8.35 points to trade at 192.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) added 3.86% or 8.10 points to end at 218.01 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) was up 3.11% or 2.98 points to 98.78 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which fell 3.54% or 2.23 points to trade at 60.78 at the close. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) declined 3.36% or 4.77 points to end at 137.25 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was down 2.50% or 3.25 points to 126.62.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were People’s United Financial Inc (NASDAQ:PBCT) which rose 15.11% to 18.05, TripAdvisor Inc (NASDAQ:TRIP) which was up 13.35% to settle at 45.25 and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (NYSE:RCL) which gained 9.28% to close at 86.19.

The worst performers were Viatris Inc (NASDAQ:VTRS) which was down 13.73% to 15.71 in late trade, Nektar Therapeutics (NASDAQ:NKTR) which lost 10.27% to settle at 22.36 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which was down 6.96% to 726.91 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were ReTo Eco-Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:RETO) which rose 93.22% to 2.280, Taoping Inc (NASDAQ:TAOP) which was up 74.01% to settle at 12.2500 and Celsion Corp (NASDAQ:CLSN) which gained 53.16% to close at 2.910.

The worst performers were Otonomy Inc (NASDAQ:OTIC) which was down 42.30% to 3.11 in late trade, Ebix Inc (NASDAQ:EBIX) which lost 40.38% to settle at 30.25 and Brainstorm Cell Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:BCLI) which was down 32.90% to 4.63 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1625 to 1479 and 71 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1828 fell and 1366 advanced, while 60 ended unchanged.

Shares in People’s United Financial Inc (NASDAQ:PBCT) rose to 52-week highs; rising 15.11% or 2.37 to 18.05. Shares in TripAdvisor Inc (NASDAQ:TRIP) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 13.35% or 5.33 to 45.25. Shares in Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) rose to all time highs; gaining 4.55% or 8.35 to 192.00. Shares in Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.86% or 8.10 to 218.01. Shares in ReTo Eco-Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:RETO) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 93.22% or 1.100 to 2.280. Shares in Taoping Inc (NASDAQ:TAOP) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 74.01% or 5.2100 to 12.2500.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 3.40% to 22.80.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.70% or 30.15 to $1807.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 3.76% or 2.23 to hit $61.49 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 3.43% or 2.13 to trade at $64.27 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.33% to 1.2157, while USD/JPY fell 0.35% to 105.06.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 90.075.
