Japan stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.44%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were CyberAgent Inc (T:4751), which rose 6.70% or 400.0 points to trade at 6370.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:9064) added 6.14% or 157.0 points to end at 2713.0 and Advantest Corp. (T:6857) was up 4.77% or 310.0 points to 6810.0 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Marui Group Co., Ltd. (T:8252), which fell 4.63% or 91.0 points to trade at 1875.0 at the close. Tokyu Corp. (T:9005) declined 4.08% or 61.0 points to end at 1433.0 and West Japan Railway Co. (T:9021) was down 4.06% or 241.0 points to 5697.0.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1892 to 1588 and 189 ended unchanged.

Shares in CyberAgent Inc (T:4751) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 6.70% or 400.0 to 6370.0. Shares in Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:9064) rose to 52-week highs; rising 6.14% or 157.0 to 2713.0. Shares in Tokyu Corp. (T:9005) fell to 5-year lows; falling 4.08% or 61.0 to 1433.0. Shares in Advantest Corp. (T:6857) rose to 5-year highs; rising 4.77% or 310.0 to 6810.0. Shares in West Japan Railway Co. (T:9021) fell to 5-year lows; down 4.06% or 241.0 to 5697.0.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 21.50 a new 3-months low.

Crude oil for August delivery was down 1.01% or 0.41 to $40.22 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.88% or 0.38 to hit $42.72 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.11% or 1.95 to trade at $1791.55 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.20% to 107.56, while EUR/JPY rose 0.01% to 121.40.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 96.930.
